Myofascial Release Therapy
During Pregnancy and for New Mothers

I can't overstate the benefits Myofascial Release Therapy provides for pregnant women and new mothers. Pregnancy involves great shifts in a woman's body. Organs never used (or not used since the last pregnancy) begin to require space, nutrition, and energy. As the fetus develops, the abdomen becomes tightly packed with the baby and all the mother's life-critical organs. MFR can help make space in the abdomen - allowing the organs to work more efficiently and creating an environment in which both the fetus and new mother are less stressed.

For example, as I was working on an expectant mother (also an MFR therapist) on her side, her baby began to move and roll. "She has needed to do that for a long time" the mother-to-be said. She just did not have the room to move."

MFR can also assist in simply making the mother feel a bit more comfortable - especially in those last three months of pregnancy. This gentle therapy helps create a calm, relaxed space for the mother to feel better and, thus, provide a better environment for the growing child.

Breast health can be improved during late-stage pregnancy and to facilitate lactation. Breast soreness can be alleviated with simple therapy which can be taught to the patient, a partner, or a friend. MFR helps nursing mothers by opening the ducts in the tissue to allow milk to flow unimpeded. No mother should suffer the frustrations of trouble nursing without the benefit of MFR.

For the new mother, MFR can help the body heal. Post-cesarean surgery scars will cause fewer complications if the mother receives MFR. This therapy can also assist back pain, healing from traditional birth, and simply the return to feeling well again.

Pregnancy and birth can be a wonderful experience. MFR can assist in both maternal and fetal health as well as post-delivery healing for mother and child.
