Myofascial Release Therapy
for Athletic Performance
Myofascial Release Therapy (MFR) can help athletes improve athletic performance by optimizing muscle power over the range of use. It can also help athletes heal from past injuries more quickly.
MFR removes myofascial restrictions in muscle bodies. Imagine a span of muscle as a train of 10 engines. If a fascial restriction restricts 3 cars, then the muscle will only be 70% as strong. Utilizing specialized techniques, the MFR therapist can release restrictions, which allows the muscle to have strength over the entire range of motion.
Additionally, MFR works to align the athlete so that muscles can have more optimal force for their motion. This increased power is particularly evident when the therapist aligns the pelvis. The patient helps set the alignment by pulling inward with the knees. After alignment, the increased muscle power is obvious.
MFR speeds healing by increasing circulation around an injury and by removing misaligned fibers in scar tissue. Remember that even a pulled muscle contains scar tissue and extra collagen to stabilize the injury. MFR helps injuries heal faster and more completely.
